Trailer Park

87 Bourke Street, Melbourne
www.grandtrailerpark.com.au/

The tavern was easy to find, and once you make you way up the fluorescent lit stair case there were plenty of tables and booths to choose from and for larger groups you could even have your own private trailer.  The mash up of Ikea with trailer park and fairy lights, untidy kegs strewn around the bar, a giant chandelier and great music created a lovely ambiance and the attractive staff not only gave us great eye candy but were also very welcoming and friendly.

Now onto the important bit, the burgers. Unfortunately, given how much hype there had been we left a little disappointed. Bit overpriced considering all you get is the burger and have to pay extra for your sides. There were mixed reviews around the table and some felt that Grill'd was better quality. I however was pretty happy, as there was a smaller burger available for about half price which suited me perfectly ... But the chips, were soooo salty. Could be an American thing, I dunno, but I found myself scraping each of them before devouring them.

Overall, service was efficient and warm. Just a pity that so much time and attention was spent on the decor and so little on the menu. Apart from their signature spiked milkshakes, such as bourbon salted caramel and maple bacon or peanut butter and jelly with rum, (which none of us were game to try) drinks were limited. Same with the menu.  A little to gimmicky.

Verdict: If you don't like beer & burgers then best to avoid, otherwise, go try for yourself.

Bar Dansk

Level 3 / 428 Little Bourke Street
http://restaurantdansk.com.au/bar-dansk/

Bar Dansk may be small but this Danish treasure won't disappoint.

Set up on the third floor of the beautiful Denmark House it's easy to find and even has a lift for those of us who a lazy and don't want to walk up the 3 flights of stairs. Perhaps the oddest thing when entering this bar was that we were asked to sign in (think RSL). However we were quickly seated, and we were taken back by our waitress's superbly authentic accent.

Although the bar had a slight IKEA feel to it, it was very light with nice big bold windows and views down Bourke street. Fur rugs, leather lounges and nice big art work with the odd danish book here and there.. It was everything you would expect in a trendy Copenhagen Bar.

Drinks on offer were limited and obviously carefully selected for a niche market. However on the plus side, they did have a pretty good Happy Hour which included $5 white and red wine, $5 beer on tap, $6 sparkling and their famous Copenhagen Cocktail for only $10... This runs Wed - Fri nights 4pm-6pm. They were also quite adventurous and passionate about their mirco brewery beers.

Of course we had to save the best for last - the food... It was very Danish and from their pretty cutlery to their Meatballs smørrebrød and to their famous hotdog, YES, YES, YES. In the words of one our barhoppers it was "hoto-licious". We all agreed we would love to come back again to try their restaurant and fine dining.

VERDICT: Highly recommended
